A vibrant economically viable downtown is critical to Chico's success. We need more people to come downtown to patronize Chico's stores and restaurants. According to a survey by Dixon Associates 91% of the people surveyed travel to downtown via car. The same survey found that the 'core,' the nine blocks bordered by 1st, 4th, Flume and Wall was 85% parked on afternoon weekdays (the two-hour zone) whereas the area outside the core was only 40% parked (the 10-hour zone). There is adequate parking capacity downtown in total but a shortage in the core area.
