CHICO — It had been since 2014 when Chico High and Pleasant Valley faced off in a Northern Section baseball final, and nine years later the Panthers and Vikings faced off in 2023. PV won the NSCIF D-II championship led by an experienced group featuring 11 seniors, eight juniors and two sophomores. Chico had seven seniors, five juniors, five sophomores and a freshman on its roster. Despite these numbers, Chico's Called Zinko took home the Eastern Athletic League MVP, while Las Plumas senior Zane Denton led the Thunderbirds to an 8-0 record in Butte View League play en route to BVL MVP honors.
