In 1972, along with my new bride, I left the crowded freeways, the crime, and the smoggy skies of southern California to stake out a future somewhere up north. With the park, the canyons, the creeks, and the small town warmth, Chico immediately grabbed me. There wasn't any place like this anywhere in the south.
